PERTAMINA AND GERONG RIVER

Oil processing refinery, known as Pertamina Processing Unit (UP) III, this is one of the oldest refinery in Indonesia. In the world of oil and gas, the refinery has a production capacity of 120 MBCD (million barrels of capacity days) this supply of oil for Southern Sumatra region.

Refinery was originally divided into two parts with different ownership. Refinery in Plaju founded by Shell, the Dutch company in 1930. About five years later, in 1935, an American company, Stanvac, founded Gerong River refinery. In pre-independence period until the time of independence, the oil processing installation has become an important object in politics. When Japan invaded in Indonesia, including Palembang in 1942, this refinery is the first priority is occupied.
