FORTRESS KUTO BESAK

This is one of the most famous heritage from Palembang, South Sumatera. The name of the building is Kuto Besak Fort.

This building was built during the 17 years starting in 1780 and inaugurated its use on Monday February 21 1797. The proponent of this castle construction was Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I (1724 – 1758) and the construction carried out by Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin, as the construction supervisor entrusted to the people of China.
Fortress Kuto Besak Palembang has 188.75 meters in length, width and height of 183.75 meters 9.99 meters (30 feet) thick and 1.99 meters (6 feet). At each corner there are bastions (bastion) bastions located northwest corner of a different shape with three other bastions. The same three bastions that are characteristic Kuto Besak Citadel bastions in the east, south and west there is another entrance to the stern is called mace.

A pride for Palembang people Kuto Besak that Castle is the only walled fortress and fortifications qualified / defense that was built at his own expense for purposes of defense from enemy attacks and the nations of Europe were not given a hero of Europe.
